for 2006 i reinstated my try-at-least-one-new-recipe-a-week resolution from a couple years ago. this time, i'm keeping track on the kitchen calendar and as long as i get 4 new recipes a months, i'll consider it done.
so far, i've tried two ginger snap/molasses cookie recipes (including one that used bacon fat instead of butter and was actually very good), a breaded pork chop recipe, a provencal stew recipe (was okay-had big pieces of orange zest in it which i didn't like, plus i had to pit a cup of nicoise olives for it-those motherfuckers are tiny!), buttermilk mashed potatoes and pasta with bacon (mmm bacon), peas, onions and ricotta.
it's pretty fun to do this and i figure i get 3 or 4 cooking magazines, i might as well use them! plus it's nice to try something different every once in a while instead of feeling like i'm in a if-this-is-tuesday-it-must-be-chicken-for-dinner kind of rut.

progress has been made...
the picture below is the only one i have so far. i did actually get into knitting a couple rows of the zigzag pattern last night, but getting myself and 2 small children out the door on time in the morning in the winter is very time consuming so i couldn't take an updated photo.
you'll just have to ooo and ahh at the beautiful colors and very tiny needles for now.

jumping on the bandwagon (with pointy sticks)
since i re-learned how to knit about 4 years ago, the only things i've finished for myself have been scarves. they are nice, but i want to do something else. and finish it. i've made mittens, socks and even a little silk gift bag for a few other folks and managed to finish those projects...but i have 2 pairs of socks for myself that i started but can't manage to finish. don't ask me why, because i don't know.
so what to do? start another pair of socks...and join a knit along for the sock pattern i've been wanting to try.
so i'm making these socks in this yarn (color: buck's bar) and i will be posting progress pictures and reports and i will finish them, by god, by feb 13th, so i can possibly win six skeins of this yarn, with which to make more socks.
am i nuts or what? i still have 1 1/2 christmas presents to finish! i'm looking at this as keeping me from going insane as well doing something for myself.
first set of pictures tomorrow. so far, i've got about 1/2 inch of ribbing done. looking forward to getting into the stitch pattern portion of the sock because knitting ribbing is B.O.R.I.N.G.

i'm the lyrical gangsta
song i made up this weekend (with help from toni basil) about the object of alix's affections:
oh pink blankie
you're so fine
you're so fine you blow my mind
