the good, the bad and the ugly

in chronological order:

bad: alix is moody yesterday after the pick-up from daycare and doesn't want to eat at the dinner table. then she throws up her lunch and afternoon snack on herself, her placemat, the table and the floor. the stomach flu has been going around the daycare center this week so i change into sweats and prepare myself for a long night ahead.

ugly (or good or pretty frickin' hilarious, depending on how you look at it): pearl (our dog) 'cleans up' (if you know what i mean) the barf from the floor and alix's booster seat.

good: alix sleeps through the night without getting sick again, eats breakfast with gusto (water and cheerios-we're not taking any chances), AND keeps it all down at which point brian and i decide that she is well enough to go to school.

take advantage of me

i was chatting with a friend of mine the other day. the thing you should know about her is that she has the amazing ability to win just about any little local contest or drawing she enters, which results in some interesting prizes. most recently, she won a $200 gift certificate to the state liquor store. woohoo! cocktail party! big time!

so anyway, we were talking about her leave of absence form work-she's totally burnt on her job (social worker) and needed some time to recharge. i asked her what she's doing with her time. she rattled off a few things and also let it slip that she's trying to get into good physical shape in case she gets pregnant again (as long as i've known her, she's wanted a 3rd child; her husband is not so fervant in the belief that they should have another one).

so, i say, have you and hubby talked about it and decided to go for it? she said no.

i said, well that's what you need the $200 worth of hooch for.

4 year old ennui

we have 'beauty and the beast' on permanent rotation in both tha car tape deck and the VCR and rory loves singing the songs from the movie to herself.

it's a bit surreal to hear her sing the line "i want much more than this provincial life" over and over again

a little light reading

this is one of the greatest ideas i've ever heard of. i dare you to ride public transport with this one over your book.

it's nice to be queen

lately rory has been saying that i am her most favorite person in the whole wide world...and what about brian? chopped liver, apparently.

one night this week, brian was snuggling her before whe went to sleep. she's been having a monster thing at night (afraid of them) and telling us she has scary dreams that wake her up. so brian says to her, "well, before you go to sleep, you can think about good things like your friends at school, skating lessons, going sledding, how much you love mommy and daddy..."

rory interrupts him to say "no, i only love mommy."
