every. freakin'. time.

i watched it's a wonderful night last night while brian was picking barry, carol and lena from the airport, and once again, i cried at the end. well, not really cried, just teared up.

how does that happen after 20+ years of watching it almost every holiday season?

LOL

this post from mimi smartypants gave me a MUCH needed giggle break just now. go now and get yourself a chuckle break too.

Little Miss Matched

these are my new favorite children's socks. they only come in packages of odd numbers, and none of them match. how easy is that?

she's just about to close up the library!

one thing i must MUST do this holiday season is watch 'it's a wonderful life'.

last year, when my family was here for the holidays, we somehow ran out of time to have the annual viewing with the sisters, which includes saying most of the lines a milli-second before they are spoken on screen. hmmm....good times. in any case, i never got around to watching it last year.

brian's not as into this holiday tradition as i am so i guess it will have to happen on one of his hockey nights. and after i watch it, i'll have to call val or joanna and scream into the phone "bert! do you know me?"

personal opinion

i just wanna say, i feel the same way about tickling, although i haven't tried this technique of halting it yet.

why the negative opinion about tickling? because, growing up, i was 'freakishly small' (as val likes to put it) and people thought it gave them license to hold me down and tickle me at will.

and the same goes for picking me up off my feet, by the way. just don't do it, okay?

hunkering down

you know it's going to be a long day when the first thing you do after coming in to the office and turning on the computer is reach for the bag of bite sized milky ways in the desk drawer.

over the top

who says that holiday display can't be too tacky?

my personal favorite.

from going jesus, who happens to be featuring a naitivity scene every day, just in time for the holidays. check out the one made of marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers! mmm...holy s'mores.

fun in the white house press pool

Twas the Slow News Month Before Christmas

Three weeks before Christmas
At the White House
Your pool was all gathered
Down in lower press

We boarded the vans
Out on the South Lawn
Where even ol' Barney
Was suppressing a yawn

To reach the Ellipse
It would be easier to walk
But the security precautions
Would make the agents balk

So the motorcade departed
The motorcade arrived
And all of this happened
At four minutes of five

Potus and Flotus took seats
Behind ballistic glass walls
The Marine Band played
And in came Santa Claus

St. Nick was fat and jolly
And in costume looked hot
I knew in an instant
It must be Willard Scott

Scott took the stage
And played a little trick
He plugged his employer
General Electric:

“Ho ho ho
He he he
All those lights
Are from G.E.”

The singers sang blues, rock
And songs about Jesus
Your poolers wondered if the
Temperature would freeze us

Potus gave his speech
Then lit up the tree
Transcripts will follow
The return was event-free

you kiss people with that mouth?

'I took The Squirrelly to the hospital today for his second flu shot. After he got it I was out in the waiting room getting ready to leave, and there was this old lady sitting near us. And she starts asking me all these questions, like 'how old is he?' and 'how much does he weight?' -- but not in a friendly way, she was all aggressive about it. So I got all ready to go, and stood up, and started rummaging around in the diaper bag for his hat, and she totally yells at me, 'you need to put a cap on that baby!!' And I turned to her and started to say 'how about I put a cap in your ass?!' But I stopped myself. Because, you know: I'm a mother now.'

netflix haiku

oh red envelope
how i love your arrival
what's next in the queue?

dumped

here are some very cool photos from a group called make trade fair. i wonder how it feels to have things like corn, milk or coffee dropped on one's head.

side note: i love the finn bros (split enz, crowded house) and always thought that neil was a little cutie but haysoosmaria, they are looking a wee bit worse for the wear in their pics. maybe i just haven't seen them in a while or something. they are still cute in an aging rocker sort of way i guess.

f-ing brilliant

dubya, the movie.
